So to make a long story short…..
Okay, sometimes blogs can get you in trouble. Mine did the opposite.
I have a friend in town whose husband is - well, hell, I have to be careful — but suffice to say, he occupies a position of great authority at a local media outlet. My friend, oddly, joined Facebook a few months ago, and I have this mighty tumblr listed there. She is very politically active and she would email me almost daily with high words of praise and encouragement. It was really flattering, but that was all I took it for. A good friend, with shared politics, patting me on the back for making good use of the internets.
About three weeks ago, I interviewed with a Very Well Known Local Company for an in house position. I had been more than ready to leave my job, but I have a healthy suspicion about Very Well Known Local Company and, in any event, I wasn’t going to commute. Then they told me that the position was based downtown, and that they also encourage telecommuting. I guess, assuming you don’t use a Mac. I know how deep their talent pool is, so I didn’t really expect an offer.
Back to my friend, she set up an interview for me with the Obama campaign. You might not have realized this, but I have some strong political opinions. I have only worked on two campaigns, though - both of them women (Ann Richards and Chris Gregoire, our governor), so I was expecting to maybe be assigned to doorbell or something. The interview was much more intense than I expected, but I was offered a job, for the next six weeks (until the election).
I am going to make an honest woman out of Cajun.
I got the offer from Very Well Known Local Company this afternoon. I told them about the political gig. They said “kickass, we’ll see you in November.” Fuck all of you Gates haters, that is pretty damn solid.
